Parker didn’t grow up imagining she’d be writing code or leading hackathon-winning teams. From a young age, she emersed herself in a range of hobbies including art, skateboarding, hiking and camping. She also dreamt of a having a big family. 

She paused her post-secondary education when she and her husband welcomed their first of four daughters. Homeschooling them became her focus—a time she says taught her the power of curiosity and problem-solving. 

In 2021, Parker returned to school, enrolling in Dal’s Faculty of Computer Science for the way it encourages the blended application of creativity and logic. 

Parker later completed an honours thesis—an investigation of the publicly available security tools for Android mobile games—under the mentorship of Dal’s Dr. Nur Zincir-Heywood, whom she says helped her overcome doubts and uncertainties. “If you work with her, you'll come out of it with a real accomplishment and the confidence that you can do big things through small, steady steps."  

Today, Parker works remotely as an associate software engineer at , an American company dedicated to digital accessibility. 

She also continues to mentor others, and was the newest alum to speak at Dal’s 2025 Women in STEM event. There, she offered motivational advice for attendees. 

“If I can take my passion, leap into the unknown and build a career that I love, then so can you,” shared Parker.
